Sent from my superior device

First there was:
Sent from my Blackberry

The purpose was to let people know that they should forgive the brevity and the typos, and that the author had a fashionable device.  It was soon to be beaten:
Sent from my iPhone

To avoid being seen as trying to be fashionable, a more neutral signature was invented:
Sent from my mobile device

Financial analysts and product managers could advertise their iPhones, but the real nerds had a device that was not even available yet in stores:
Sent from my G1

Even realer nerds needed to point out that Android is not limited to any device:
Sent from my Android capable device

But that seemed a bit too long:
Sent from my droid

In order to make sure readers knew why messages were so long and perfect, quite a few people invented:
Sent from my computer

Really old nerds with beards sign:
Sent from my iBM

Los Angeles Style, like in the clubs

In corporate environments where most people spent their university years locked away in a lab, recreation is to be studied and over-analyzed like everything else!

Goats in an office park

These goats were hired by Google to keep the weeds short.  It created enough sensation to get an explanation on the Official Google Blog.

The daily blimp

When gas prices spiked, people were talking about a commuter blimp from San Francisco to San Jose.  But I think this one which was showing up every afternoon above Shoreline Amphitheatre is actually an Airship Ventures sightseeing blimp going to Moffet field.

Update: There is now a blimp covered in an advertisement for Sergey Brin's wife's "personal genetics" startup 23andMe (https://www.23andme.com).  And the nerds insist that you call it a  "semi-rigid airship", it is technically not a blimp.  The exact model is the Zeppelin NT.

A Porsche and a Ferrari in front of a modest house

This sports car collection does not even fit in the driveway!  But the house is still worth almost an order of magnitude more than the cars.

Why?

So many times since coming to Silicon Valley, I see something and find myself thinking "Only in Silicon Valley".

I could tweet about it, but that could annoy all my Twitter followers.  (Of course, I doubt that will stop some of you, so if you find yourself needing to express in 140 characters or less how unique something is to Silicon Valley, direct it @oisv and I will give you credit here and there.)

So, because I don't have time to start a complete social network dedicated to it in true Silicon Valley fashion, I started a blog about it.

Now that we are out of stealth mode, there is no better YouTube video to play at this blog's launch party than the 2007 video Here Comes Another Bubble by The Richter Scales!
